Learning in the modern age, technology and independent investigators.

Through practical and problem based activities in the Yellow pathway we ensure learners have the opportunities to complete tasks which develop creative, technical and practical skills to perform everyday tasks within DT and across the curriculum.  Within Food Technology our aim is to prepare our young people for the tasks they need to master for independent living. This incorporates a good understanding of hygiene and safety in the kitchen. Through our Computing curriculum, we want to enable our pupils to become digitally aware and responsible citizens and recognise the benefits and safety implications of online activities. We teach them to navigate online systems and programs proficiently and safely developing functional computing skills including word processing to prepare them for life in the adult digital world.

Learners on the Green pathway use approaches such as TEACCH, sensory stories, messy play investigation, parachute games, making choices, attention building and problem solving.  Learners use a variety of different types of technology to access the world around them.  Through sensory exploration they have an understanding of food and materials to link ideas.

Learners on the Blue pathway are supported to engage with different types of technology to help link experiences and engage positively.  They are exposed to a variety of different materials, processes and techniques to link experiences and engage positively and repetitively securing engagement and experiences.

Learners on the Purple pathway have opportunities to develop technical and practical skills to master independent living.  They are increasingly digitally aware and use a variety of technology to access the world around them. They are supported to navigate the online world safely and functionally preparing them for adult life.

Take a look at the subject guides to see how the subjects are taught across each pathway.
